Overview

The pathway sits within the programme, which offers a range of modules related to medical imaging, healthcare, management and research. The course is designed to support healthcare practitioners who are actively involved in clinical Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) to develop the knowledge and skills of a professional who aspires to work at an advanced level.

From its inception spanning over two decades, the MRI course continues to be a popular study choice for radiographers, which is reflective of its continued clinical relevance and benefit to healthcare professionals in maintaining their continued professional development (CPD).

To ensure the curriculum remains appropriately diverse and valid for contemporary MRI clinical practice, the course is delivered in partnership with practising clinical and scientific experts working in the MRI sector. Upon successful completion of the Postgraduate Certificate pathway, students can further their studies by registering for additional modules within the medical imaging portfolio to obtain a Postgraduate Diploma or Master's degree.

Entry requirements

To be eligible for admission to this pathway you must be an HCPC-registered health care practitioner in employment and have experience in working in MRI, with possession of a BSc Hons in Diagnostic Radiography or appropriate professional qualification.

Applicants must have managerial support for their studies, including a commitment that appropriate facilities, relevant clinical experience and time will be made available to support their studies (15 hours a week) and a suitably qualified mentor.

English language requirements: IELTS at 6.5 or the equivalent.

This part-time Postgraduate Certificate programme consists of two 30-credit modules.

After successfully completing 60 credits and achieving the award learning outcomes, you will be eligible to:

exit with the award of Postgraduate Certificate Medical Imaging (Magnetic Resonance Imaging)
continue to Year 2 of Postgraduate Diploma or MSc Medical Imaging

Learning and assessment

The programme of study is organised on a part-time basis and teaching will take a blended (hybrid) approach which will consist of face-to-face campus learning and online sessions.

There will be a variety of planned activities to be undertaken each week. This mode of delivery has proved to be popular with students who benefit academically from the concentrated period devoted to their studies and learning with their peers. A range of assessments which cater for different students' strengths are included in the module syllabi to assess the learning outcomes and programme aims.

Financial support

Health Education England may fund some health courses/modules at the University of Bradford for healthcare staff providing NHS services working within West Yorkshire and Harrogate, against organisational training priorities identified through the organisations training needs analysis.
