Dr. Zubair Shah
Biography
Dr Syed Zubair Shah has extensive and diverse experience of working in business, public and voluntary sectors with national and international organizations. He started his professional career as a marketing executive in a computer firm selling American products - Wang, Tandy & RadioShack. He served in the civil services of Pakistan in important leadership positions both at the provincial and federal level. He has worked with the United Nations Mission in Bosnia as an International Instructor and with the United Nations Integrated Mission in East Timor as Chief of the Strategic Planning Department. Working as Project Lead, Dr Shah successfully led the first-of-its-kind community policing initiative in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, managed by Coffey International Development and funded by the Department for International Development, UK. He has also been a fellow of the prestigious International Visitor’s Leadership Program of the Department of State, United States Government. He has also qualified the Forensic Interviewing Course from Canadian Police College Ottawa, besides completing numerous other courses in diverse areas of interest.
Prior to completing his PhD in Accounting from the University of Bradford, Dr Shah had done his MA(ECON) in Public Policy and Management, First Position, from the University of Manchester, UK, Masters in Transnational Crime Prevention [Distinction] from the University of Wollongong Australia, and Master of Public Administration from Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad. For his undergraduate degree he studied Economics and Political Science. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy UK and a member of the British Accounting and Finance Association.
Dr Shah is the joint Programme Lead for MSc Finance, Accounting and Management. He is the module leader for Strategic Management Accounting [ACCA accredited] and Business Economics. He has also taught Management Accounting [ACCA accredited] and Introduction to Finance at the undergraduate level. He has supervised undergraduate, postgraduate and MBA students for their dissertations and research projects. He continuously embeds EDI (Equality, Diversity & Inclusion) principles in the curriculum that he teaches.
He also remained as Director of Employability and Graduate Outcomes at the School of Management, University of Bradford, and can render useful advice to students seeking placements, internships or jobs in the market.
His research interests include corporate governance, corporate fraud, audit and regulatory quality, financial crisis, debt crisis, interest rate regimes, diversity-based research and market-based accounting research. He has published in the International Review of Financial Analysis and International Journal of Finance and Economics. He is a reviewer for the International Review of Economics and Finance.
Dr Shah has traversed academic areas beyond his professional research stream, for instance, his book ‘A journey for the purpose of life’ delves on the philosophical and existential issues and traces their answers from scientific theology.

Britannia Chevening Scholarship to pursue studies for a taught master’s degree at a UK university by the British Council.
First position for the degree of MA (ECON) in Public Policy and Management at the Institute of Development Policy and Management, University of Manchester, UK.
AUSAID Scholarship for master’s degree by the Australian High Commission Pakistan through a nationwide competitive process.
NINE Distinctions in ten subjects in the Master of Transnational Crime Prevention programme of the Faculty of Law, University of Wollongong, Australia.
First Position out of 1400 candidates in the North-West Frontier Province Public Services Commission Competitive Examination 1989.
First position in the province and 13th overall in the country in the Pakistan Institute of Banking and Finance Services Commission Competitive Examination 1994.
