Help and support if you are self-isolating

We offer a range of support for any students who are self-isolating with a possible or confirmed case of COVID-19, including mental health and counselling support, a University ‘Buddies’ service run by our Students’ Union, and advice on how to arrange things like deliveries of food and medication.

We know that self-isolating can be difficult. You’re not able to leave your home, visit public places, go outside for exercise or to buy food, and you can’t invite friends or family to your home during this time either. That’s a lot to deal with.

Keep in contact with people

It’s important that you to stay connected with other people. Try and reach out to flatmates, friends, family members and course mates by phone and social media. They may be able to drop food off at your door or arrange for essentials to be delivered to you.

Our Counselling and Mental Health Service can also provide you with emotional and mental health support by phone, video and email. To arrange an appointment, you can email us at counselling@bradford.ac.uk or mhadvice@bradford.ac.uk.

Our Interfaith Chaplaincy Team represents various faith groups and can provide spiritual support and pastoral care for students of all faiths and no faith. The team is available for you to chat to if you are feeling lonely, wish to discuss issues of faith and belief, or have any other concerns.

Bradford Students’ Union ‘buddies’ service

Our Students’ Union (UBU) have several ‘buddies’ who would like to offer their help and keep in touch to make sure you’re okay during your self-isolation period. Request a buddy online here and someone will get back to you.

Other sources of help

Our Student Life team is also able to offer practical assistance and you can email them on supportandguidance@bradford.ac.uk or call them on 01274 233 218.

NHS Volunteer Responders are also available if you need help collecting shopping, medication or would like a telephone ‘check-in and chat’. You can arrange one-off support, or schedule more regular help whilst you are self-isolating. You can register for support by calling 0808 196 3646 (8am to 8pm).

Food deliveries while self-isolating

As you are unable to leave your accommodation, you should not go outside to visit food outlets or shops. You will need to rely on delivery services or a friend or family member to collect food and supplies. The Student Life team can also help you to access food if you are struggling to arrange this for yourself.

Many supermarkets allow you to order groceries online for delivery to your home. You will need to create an account on the supermarket's website, choose your delivery time slot (for when your delivery will arrive at your home), choose your items and use a debit/credit card to pay.

Supermarkets that deliver to the local area include:

If you are struggling to get a delivery slot, some supermarkets offer food boxes which can be delivered the next day:

Our Student Life Team can also provide support with accessing food and can be contacted on supportandguidance@bradford.ac.uk or by calling them on 01274 233 218.

Help with medication during self-isolation

For basic ‘over the counter’ medication in small supplies, such as paracetamol or aspirin, a friend or family member may be able to buy some for you and deliver them to your door. You can also order some with your food deliveries or via online ordering sites such as Amazon or Boots.

If you need to get a prescription, some GP surgeries and pharmacies offer a prescription delivery service.

You can find a pharmacy near you from our list of local pharmacies.
