International Women's Day Event

To celebrate the International Women's Day #ChooseToChallenge campaign 2021, the University of Bradford’s Gender Staff Forum, the Centre for Inclusion and Diversity (CfID) and the Students’ Union are hosting an event, comprising of a series of mini presentations and discussions. 

The event will take place on Monday 8th March, from 10.30am to 12:30pm via the Zoom platform and is open to all staff and students.

Chairing the event are Professor Vishanth Weerakkody (Dean of the Faculty of Management, Law and Social Sciences) and Mr Paul Watson (Director of Learning, Teaching and Quality Enhancement), who are the University’s Executive Advocates for Gender Equality.

Firstly, the event will begin with a panel discussion, comprising of; Ms Kate Swann (Chancellor of the University of Bradford), Professor Shirley Congdon (Vice-Chancellor of the University of Bradford), Professor Uduak Archibong (Pro Vice-Chancellor of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion), Mrs Kersten England (CEO of Bradford Council) and Ms Samera Shabir (UBU Student Affairs Sabbatical Officer).  All five women will provide their perspectives on women in leadership: achieving an equal future in the Covid-19 world. 

We have invited, Dr Emma Brown, co-Chair of the NeuroDivergent Staff Network, who will provide a short presentation on the underdiagnosis of neurodivergence in women and girls.

Finally, individuals and teams across the university will present the ways in which they are promoting and progressing gender equality through the implementation of the Athena Swan Action Plan.  Ms Kath Bridger, from CfID, will lead the session, which will be followed by an update on actions from the Faculty Athena Swan Leads (Dr Elaine Brown, Dr Carlton Reeve, Dr Julie Prowse, Dr Chris Gaffney and Dr Amizan Omar). 

Attendees will have an opportunity to interact and engage with the two presentations and discussion through Q&A sessions.
