Thank you for your interest in our dedicated International Career Booster Programme. The programme will be free of charge to our International Partners. All sessions will take place via Microsoft Teams or Zoom. To register for a session, please complete this form.

Think Placements! Booster: Workshops aiming to boost confidence and success with interview processes and insight to placements, internships and work experience opportunities. Attendance to all of these sessions will see you rewarded with an additional Think Placements! certificate.
Monday 13th February 2023
10am to 12pm: Get Started with Career Planning
Details of the session: Get Started with Career Planning - It’s never too early (or late) to start planning your career but you may be wondering how to begin. This workshop will cover how to generate and research career ideas; factors that can impact on our career choices and introduce you to the concept of 'managing' your career.
What you will take away from this session/learning outcomes: You will find out about the resources you can use to help you develop an effective approach to career management.
2pm - 4pm: Live More Offline - Caring for your digital wellbeing and balance
This session will be held online via Microsoft Teams.
Career Booster Theme: Personal Development Booster
Details of the session: For many, digital working has resulted in blurred boundaries, always on working, video exhaustion and digital overload. Without intentional practices this can lead to burnout and pressure to be constantly connected and replying more quickly to digital messages. Healthy digital habits at both and individual and team level are key to caring for wellbeing in digital work. This session will help you :
- Learn how being ‘always on’ impacts the body and mind
- Be able to identify signs of overload earlier and take action to introduce downtime
- Create practical solutions to reduce out of hours email, video call exhaustion and digital overload
- Create a healthy balance with technology
What you will take away from this session/learning outcomes: Students who attend this session will learn about the negative impacts of being "always on" in a digital work environment, and will be equipped with the knowledge and tools to identify and address signs of overload. They will also learn how to create practical solutions to reduce out of hours email, video call exhaustion and digital overload and create a healthy balance with technology. Overall, the session aims to help students take control of their digital wellbeing and prevent burnout.

2pm to 5pm: Intermediate Excel
This session will be held online via Microsoft Teams.
Career Booster Theme: Technical Booster
Details of the session: In this session, students will improve their Excel skills, such as working with Pivot Tables, and functions such as sum, average, median, sumif, averageif, if, and, or vlookup, hlookup and many more.
What you will take away from this session/learning outcomes: Excel is always a demanded skill from employees. Learning many shortcuts and functions will help students to perform better at Excel.
Please note students are expected to have a basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel in order to attend this session.

Tuesday 14th February 2023

Details of the session: The session will assist student with navigating their way around LexisNexis when conducting research. Students who complete the session successfully will receive a certificate.

This session will be held online via Microsoft Teams.

Details of the session: How to optimise focus and creativity in an age of digital distraction.
As technology automates more routine work, the World Economic Forum has predicted that higher level cognitive skills will become increasingly important to career success. Digital habits also impact our capability to learn and study. Yes, we are often surrounded by a digitally distracted environment without putting in place the conditions to be able to focus. At work this results in working outside core hours to 'get work done', in study this makes it harder to learn. Join this talk to sharpen your focus in a digital age and:
- See how digital distraction impact on your focus, creativity and strategic thought
- Learn the three different modes of work and how you can use these to increase focus and creativity
- Take the first steps to give you back more time in your day, learn more effectively and be more productive

Wednesday 15th February 2023
10am to 11.30am: Yorkshire Building Society - Networking with Employers including LinkedIn
This session will be held online via Microsoft Teams.
Career Booster Theme: Professional Insight Booster
Details of the session: The purpose of the session is to focus on the different ways that students can network with employers by:
- Using LinkedIn – why is it useful, how to build employer networks including alumni, maximise your profile, research publications, professional bodies, researching companies, look for job vacancies
- Looking at different tactics to network with employers
What you will take away from this session/learning outcomes: The session will inform students on the different ways, via an employer's point of view, that Linked In can help them network and research employers and job vacancies on Linked In. Students will be given the opportunity to look at developing various networking strategies in order to connect with employers.
10am to 11.30am: BPP Law - Commercial Awareness in the Legal Sector
This session will be held online via Microsoft Teams.

10am to 11.30am: Starting your Career in Mental Health - An Introduction to Becoming a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner
This session will be held online.
This workshop is recommended for: Students in the Faculty of Management, Law and Social Sciences
Career Booster Theme: Professional Insight Booster
Details of the session: The session will cover an overview of the PWP role and how it functions within a Stepped care model. It will look at the different routes available into the role as well as the minimum entry requirements for the training program. The session will also highlight where to acquire relevant experience as well as potential career progression.
What you will take away from this session/learning outcomes: This session will be open to all who are looking at different career options within Psychology and Mental Health. They will learn where to find appropriate experience for the role and what skills they will need to become a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner and embark on the specific training for the role.

10am to 1pm: Creating, Elevating and Standing Out on LinkedIn!
This session will be held online via Microsoft Teams.

Details of the session: Are you interested in joining LinkedIn and wondering what it’s all about? Or are you already on LinkedIn but want to make yourself stand out! This interactive session will help you to understand how to complete your ‘All Star’ profile, how to make the most of your profile and learn about the top tips to make effective use of the platforms LinkedIn has to offer! In this session you will take control of building your profile and once you are ‘LinkedIn Savvy’, you’ll be ready and raring to go to Link up to the professional community!
What you will take away from this session/learning outcomes: Developing networking skills, linking to employers, building a professional profile and help with searching for jobs
2pm to 3.30pm: Circular Economy and the Important Role of Designers and Managers
This session will be held online via Microsoft Teams.

Details of the session: With climate change and the depletion of resources, the increasing amount of waste, the increasing number of young climate activists and campaigns, upcoming legislation, and increasing consumer awareness, it is only natural for leading universities to incorporate sustainability and circular economy into their research agenda and education curriculum for future design engineers and managers. Designers and managers have a crucial role to play in reducing the environmental impact of products and achieving a resource-efficient circular economy through their design and managerial choices and decisions. However, they are not adequately trained on how to do it. The aim of this workshop is to inspire and educate students to recognise the power of design and management and the impact of their choices ( e.g. selection of materials, selection of connections and product structure, design briefs, companies’ internal and external policies and finding financial incentives) to build a more circular and sustainable world. I aim to achieve this not only through existing theoretical knowledge but also through a very practical and hands-on learning approach (less talk and more action!).
What you will take away from this session/learning outcomes: Students will learn the concepts of Circular Product Design, Circular Business Models and Circular Value Chains from a theoretical and practical perspective. Nowadays, every company or institution has an environmental office and implementing sustainability and circular economy has become a top priority in organisations' agendas. So firstly, it is important for students to get acquainted with the terminologies. More importantly, 21st-century students need to be aware of the current global crisis, climate change, and depletion of resources and proactively make changes toward a sustainable and circular world.

This workshop is recommended for: Students in the School of Management and School of Social Sciences

Details of the session: This session will demonstrate how to create references using the University's Harvard Bradford style of referencing.
What you will take away from this session/learning outcomes: Referencing correctly helps students to avoid plagiarising and improves grades.

Details of the session: Join the NatWest Business Builder team as we take a deep dive into The Power of Mindset. We’ll be looking at how our mindset is formed and influenced to understand why different situations feel comfortable or not. You’ll come away with a deeper understanding of your own mindset, where it may be holding you back, and the tools and techniques you need to take the next uncomfortable step.

This session will be held online via Zoom.
This workshop is recommended for: Students in the Faculty of Management, Law and Social Sciences.
Career Booster Theme: Professional Insight Booster
Details of the session: Join the Business Builder team as we break the 60-second or ‘elevator’ pitch down into its component parts. You’ll come away with a clear understand around what to put in and leave out and how to structure for maximum impact. We’ll give you all the tools, tips and hints for you to crack on with writing a pitch you’re confident in and proud of straight away. We’ll also share some great practical tips when pitching to an audience of 1 or 100.
What you will take away from this session/learning outcomes: Develop a clear understanding on how to deliver a 60-second pitch by breaking it into component parts for maximum impact. Gain tools, tips and hints to build confidence.

Details of the session: Join us for a conversation with women working in various fields in the legal profession, listen to how they got there, how they balance work and family life, how to build a successful career in what has historically been a male dominated world.
